Who are the good, bad, and ugly in chocolate?

Explore the 2025 Chocolate Scorecard
Green America’s partners recently launched the sixth edition of the Chocolate Scorecard, which ranks chocolate companies on living income, gender, traceability and transparency, pesticides, child and forced labor, and deforestation and climate. If you are looking to choose chocolate that is better for people and the planet, this is a great resource.
Time and time again, small chocolate companies rank better than major chocolate brands on social and environmental issues. Direct and fair trade chocolate companies have been placing farmers front and center of their business models for years. Take a look at some A-rated chocolate companies.
What about the kids, the trees, and the bees?
Sustainability means “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” Most chocolate is currently not sustainable, but solutions to child labor, deforestation, and hazardous pesticide are not only possible but vital to the health of people and planet. Consumers can make informed choices and demand tangible change.
