Job Role and Responsibilities
The Senior Grants & Foundations Manager is a relationship-driven, detail-oriented role responsible for managing Green America's foundation grant portfolio, including researching, writing, and managing grants and grant reports. This position works closely with the Director of Development & Organizational Advancement, program staff, and the finance department to ensure grant compliance, accurate reporting, and strong funder relationships. The Senior Grants & Foundations Manager will support the full grants lifecycle — from prospect research and proposal development through award management, reporting, and stewardship — while maintaining and growing Green America's foundation partnerships.
Essential duties & responsibilities:
Grant Writing and Management
- Research, write, and submit grant proposals and letters of inquiry to foundation funders.
- Manage all aspects of active grants, including tracking deadlines, reporting requirements, and award terms through a maintained grants calendar.
- Prepare and submit timely, accurate grant reports in collaboration with program staff.
- Maintain organized records of all grants, correspondence, and funder documentation in Raiser's Edge.
- Monitor grant budgets in coordination with the Finance team to ensure compliance with funder restrictions and accurate financial reporting.
- Identify new grant opportunities through prospect research and maintain an active pipeline of foundation prospects.
Foundation Relations and Moves Management
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with current foundation funders through regular communication, stewardship, and proactive engagement.
- Support moves management for foundation prospects, tracking relationship progress and next steps in coordination with the Director of Development & Organizational Advancement.
- Research and identify prospective foundation funders aligned with Green America's programs and priorities.
- Support the Director of Development & Organizational Advancement in cultivating new foundation partnerships.
- Represent Green America professionally in funder communications and meetings as needed.
Collaboration and Communications
- Partner with program staff to gather outcomes data, impact stories, and narrative content for reports and proposals.
- Collaborate with the Communications team to ensure grant materials align with Green America's messaging standards.
- Provide regular updates to the Director of Development & Organizational Advancement on grant portfolio status, pipeline activity, and upcoming deadlines.
Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in grants management, foundation relations, or nonprofit development with a focus on institutional fundraising.
- Demonstrated experience writing and managing foundation grants, including complex multi-year awards.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to translate program work into compelling funder narratives.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple grants and deadlines simultaneously.
- Experience working collaboratively across departments to gather information and meet reporting requirements.
- Proficiency with Raiser's Edge or similar CRM and grants management systems.
- Experience with prospect research tools and foundation databases.
- Commitment to racial equity, environmental sustainability, and social change values.
- Self-directed and comfortable working independently in a fully remote environment.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with green economy, environmental, or social justice organizations and their funder ecosystems.
- Experience with federal grant management and compliance.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
