I believe that the use the software could significantly benefit companies in many different fields allowing them to avoid the waste of paper and resources associated with printing multiple pages. The development of products by S & C Research is focused on the attempt to produce products that will benefit the environment. This would include productivity software in businesses that will assist a business to become more efficient while also benefiting the environment. Our research and efforts will also be directed towards products benefiting the consumer and businesses in terms of energy efficiency and other concepts associated with reducing the need for consumption of energy in homes or businesses. Those concepts are still in development but our intent is to use the funds from the current program to fund other research and development in energy efficient home heating systems.

During my career as an attorney my office was faced with the prospect of dealing with large PDF files that needed to be printed and managed to part of a standard office practice. In the age of the 'electronic' and 'paperless'file system my office learned that the resultant need to print PDF files resulted in significant amount of waste and cost associated with printing pages. In the new all electronic file systems utilized in business today large amounts of information is captured many of which is duplicate copies of previously scanned documents. In many instances my office was required to print out thousands of pages of PDF files in order to eventually learn that only 200 or 300 pages out of 1000 pages might be relevant.
In an effort to limit the ways of the paper and resources my firm did seek out software that would allow a person to break down a multiple page PDF form into individual pages and to identify and rule in or rule out the documents that would actually be relevant for review. This would allow us to limit the total number of pages that needed to be actually printed as part of the review process. Unfortunately, we were not able to find any product in the marketplace that could perform this function.
I have worked for years with the engineers associated with the Rose Hullman Institute in Terre Haute Indiana. The entity known as Rose Hullman Ventures had been established in order to work with small businesses and entrepreneurs in developing software and other efficiencies for businesses. In concert with that entity we have developed the document sorting software that allows a user to identify similarly appearing documents in order to identify and remove duplicate documents. The program also allows a review of similarly appearing documents so items such as blank pages, cover pages, billing forms, or other documents typically scanned into a file that would not be relevant to a review and analysis can be quickly omitted. My office has been able to significantly reduce the printing cost and expense associated with the evaluation of large PDF files. This program would have applications outside of the legal setting including any business or organization that works with documents saved in the PDF format or electronic file format.
